Robbie Wells has won 2 gold and 1 silver medal for Patterns, Tag Team and Sparring respectively at the GTUK Scottish Championships.
The Lancaster Volkswagen sponsored Taekwon-Do black belt took part in the championships on Saturday 10th May in Glasgow. Over 400 competitors took part and Robbie was awarded the gold in Patterns (1st & 2nd degree black belt males),Gold in tag team (England vs Scotland) and Silver in Sparring (under 65kg males). It is a fantastic achievement.
Robbie commented: "Overall a great result for both me and team England. I was very pleased to take the gold this time in a big patterns category after another close final against the same competitor I lost to in the British Championship final, and also team mate. It was a close split decision in the sparring final but managed to finish on a high in the annual England vs Scotland team event.
After continually losing to Scotland year after year we really didn't have anything to lose. The event was over two 3-man tag team bouts of separate teams where the points were accumulated over both bouts. After the first bout England were 9-6 down and I was part of the second tag team, only having 3 minutes to get back on top. Not only did we eliminate the 3 point deficit but we made a 3 point advance, beating Scotland 15-12. It wasn't just the male team who got the victory but team England almost managed a full white wash winning in all team categories expect one of the peewee (under 12's) category.
A dominant performance from England and another great championships. I now have a few months till my next competition which is potentially in September. I now have time to focus on exams and train hard before the next championships. I cannot thank Lancaster Volkswagen enough for their support and I'm truly grateful, they have been fantastic."
I'm sure you'll all join us in congratulating Robbie and wishing him the best of luck for the Taekwon-Do International (TI) European Championships.
